ALGOMA DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Golly Gee Whiz
Trustees were treated to a selection of musical numbers from White Pines students, their teacher Erica Strom and White Pines Intermediate Vice Principal Sandi DalCin.
This February White Pines Onstage will be presenting the musical “Golly Gee Whiz!”
Winner of the National Youth Theatre Award for Outstanding New Musical, Golly Gee Whiz! is “the quintessential backyard musical. It’s a loving tribute to the terrific Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland Hollywood film musicals of the 1930s and 40s that portrayed the 'can do' attitude of the younger generation.”
School shows will be presented from Wednesday, February 4 to Friday, February 6 inclusive.
Evening public performances will be staged from Thursday, February 5 to Saturday, February 7 inclusive.
Evening performances will run from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre and tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
This show is suitable for all ages.
This production includes our White Pines Intermediate program students along with students from the secondary program.
Phantom of the Opera
Evan Williams who plays the Phantom and music teacher Denine Williams were on hand to entertain at the Board Meeting. Korah Musical Theatre is presenting Phantom of the Opera from February 11 to 14.
All performances will be at the Korah Auditorium.
The first three shows (February 11-13) have a 7 p.m. start time, and tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
On February 14 the production is at 3 p.m. followed by a Masquerade Dinner at the Northern Grand Gardens.
Show tickets are the same price ($15 and $10) and the masquerade dinner ticket is sold separately.
This is a fundraising event for the musical theatre program at Korah.
Tickets for the dinner are limited and are available at the school and by phone at 705-945-7180.
Tickets for all other shows are also available at Korah or through the Community Theatre Box Office at Station Mall (where a surcharge is applicable).
Phantom of the Opera is Broadway’s longest running musical.
The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London, England in 1986 and is now in its 29th record-breaking year.
It has been the Broadway musical all others are measured against.
With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the score includes the memorable numbers such as “Think of Me” and “Music of the Night” which Evan performed for the Trustees.
