Freezing rain possible north of the city overnight

Freezing rain is expected to affect areas including Wawa and White River

Freezing rain, expected to begin overnight, will affect some areas north of Sault Ste. Marie into Thursday morning.

The affected areas include:

  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Wawa - Pukaskwa Park
  • White River - Dubreuilville

In an alert issued this afternoon, Environment Canada advises that Highway 17 between Wawa and White River "could particularly be impacted by the freezing rain until early Thursday morning."

The conditions are expected to develop as the temperature drops below freezing tonight and up to 10 mm of accumulation is possible in some areas.

As of 4:30 p.m., the city remains under a rainfall warning with 20 to 40 mm of rain expected. 

The heavy rain is expected to affect areas including:

  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Blind River - Thessalon
  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay

A break in the rain is possible this evening before another round overnight.
