Former Saultite honoured during Country Music Week

On Friday, September 10 in Edmonton the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) will pay tribute to a variety of pioneers and trend-setters in Canada's rich country music landscape.

On Friday, September 10 in Edmonton the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) will pay tribute to a variety of pioneers and trend-setters in Canada's rich country music landscape.

Among those the CCMA will be inducting into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Honour during its annual Country Music Week are Donna and Leroy Anderson.

Donna Anderson (nee Ramsay) was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, and Leroy is originally from Balzac, Alberta.

Although the two enjoyed some success as solo artists before joining forces, the Andersons are best known as regulars on The Tommy Hunter TV Show.

The duo toured across Canada with Tommy hunter on occassion, and their 1981 release Livin' on Love produced several charted hits.

Livin' on Love also earned the Andersons the CCMA award for duo of the year in 1983.

Others being inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Honour this year include Willie P. Bennett, Eddie Eastman, Hal and Ginger Willis, and Joyce Smith.
