Former Sault Ste. Marie Director of Tourism, Ian McMillan, has been named vice-chair of the board of Science North for a three-year term.
He joins James Lundrigan who was named chair of its Board of Trustees for a three-year term.
Both appointments are effective immediately.
McMillan is President of McMillan Tourism Management, a consulting firm, and currently working as an international marketing specialist with Destination Northern Ontario. As Executive Director of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie from 2001-2018, he led a number of visitor-attraction initiatives. Prior to that he was Brand Manager for the Northern Tourism Marketing Corp. and Executive Director of Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association.
During his career, McMillan sat on a number of boards, including the Travel Industry Council of Ontario, Tourism Industry Association of Ontario, Attractions Ontario, Great Lakes Cruising Coalition and Cruise Ontario.
In 2017, he was inducted into the Festivals & Events Ontario hall of fame, and in 2019 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tourism Industry Association
of Ontario.
Lundrigan joined Science North’s board in 2018 and McMillan in 2020. Order-in-Council appointment followed a recruitment and review process supported by the Public Appointments Secretariat. Lundrigan replaces Dr. Stephen Kosar, who served 12 years on the Board of Trustees.

Lundrigan is the Chief Operating Officer for Technica Mining in Sudbury, Canada’s largest Canadian owned mining contracting company. He is a third -generation miner having spent the last 34 years developing his skills in all aspects of mining. He was involved with Ontario Mine Rescue for 25 years and is a past chair of the Technical Advisory Committee for that organization. He was a longtime volunteer for Ducks Unlimited Canada and Rayside Balfour minor hockey.
Lundrigan is a father of three grown children and has one grandchild. He resides in Chelmsford with Lynne, his wife of 32 years.
