The Gathering at White Pines took place on Thursday June 1.

White Pines hosted 450 elementary students to a day of learning about Aboriginal culture through student led workshops.

The day began with students gathering in the theatre to watch a play written and produced by students.  Later, the eager elementary students were divided into groups and taken through a series of workshops.

Workshops included, traditional games, dancing and drumming, trapping, and learning about the medicines.

Lunch of chili and scone was provided for all participants.

Later in the afternoon, Bear Creek was the main drum at the pow wow held in the school's new football field.  White Pines was host to 45 dancers, community partners, families and school board officials, as well as Chief Paul Syrette from Garden River.

There were vendors on site and a sacred fire burned throughout the day.

A visiting Elder and Residential School Survivor, Jackie Fletcher stated that, "when I walked in the doors of White Pines this morning, the energy was so powerful it brought tears to my eyes".

White Pines plans to make this an annual event.
