Fire crews battle early morning blaze in Elliot Lake

Residents are asked to avoid the area near Charles Walk

Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 02:42 hrs, the Elliot Lake Fire Department received a 911 call for a working fire at 7 Charles Walk.

Upon arrival on scene, the fire department crew reported heavy smoke and flames showing from the second story. The fire was brought under control by 10:17 hrs with heavy fire damage to the structure.

Crews are still on scene and waiting for the arrival of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office to assist in the investigation for probable cause of the fire.

There are no injuries to report. Estimated cost of damages is unknown at this time.

Fire Chief John Thomas would like to remind the public:

  1. Be cautious when discarding smoking materials.
  2. Every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every story and outside all sleeping areas.

Fire crews are currently working on Charles Walk. Residents are asked to avoid the area.

Homes and businesses in the area may experience water discolouration. If this happens, please run your cold water until it clears. Avoid using any appliances or hot water as damage may result.
