8:36 p.m. update:
Dr. Kim Barker will be replaced at Algoma Public Health on an interim basis by Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, who holds the same positions at the Sudbury District Health Unit.
Marchy Bruni, APH chair, said Dr. Sutcliffe will continue running the Sudbury Health Unit as well until Dr. Barker's successor is chosen.
The interim appointment was ratified tonight by the APH board, but Bruni told SooToday that the appointment was recommended by the provincial government.
Dr. Kim Barker is no longer chief executive officer and medical officer of health at Algoma Public Health.
Dr. Barker submitted her resignation tonight at a closed meeting of the health unit board.
Her resignation was accepted by the board.
It will take effect immediately.
The resignation was announced later at a public meeting of the health unit board by Marchy Bruni, APH chair.
