Downbound traffic on the St. Marys River has resumed after a cargo vessel ran aground over the weekend.
The U.S. Coast Guard said it occurred at around 5 p.m. Sunday after the 497-foot freighter – which was carrying canola seed – experienced a mechanical failure.
There were no reports of injuries or pollution.
After it regained power, the vessel floated free from the mud bottom and shifted to anchorage in Mud Lake with a tug escort.
“A survey to the West Neebish Channel found no hazards to navigation after the marine casualty near Rock Cut, Michigan,” said the U.S. Coast Guard in an update on Tuesday.
The upbound traffic channel was not impacted by the incident.
