NEWS RELEASE
ROTARY CLUB OF SAULT STE. MARIE
*************************
The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie is looking for community help in collecting its history and stories. The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie is celebrating its 100th year of serving Sault Ste. Marie and area, and is appealing to anyone who has a Rotary story to share, whether you’re a past exchange student, family member of a past Rotarian, beneficiary of a Rotary program, or any of the other many ways people have interacted with the club. The story may be elaborate as a life-changing scholarship from Rotary, or as simple as recalling taking the street car to Community Days.
The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has worked on many fundraisers, events, and projects, including:
- Rotaryfest, The Sault’s Summer Festival, formerly Community Night (est. 1922)
- Rotary Science Fair Algoma (est. 1962)
- Snowarama for Easter Seals Kids (est. 1975)
- Rotary Sports Dinner, formerly Sports Celebrities’ Dinner (est. 1956)
- Easter Seals Telethon, formerly Superthon (est. 1983)
- Rotary Youth Exchange (est. 1971)
- 4H Dairy Calf Club (est. 1938)
- Our support of Easter Seals Ontario (1923)
- Our support of THRIVE Child Development Centre, formerly The Rotary Children’s Centre (1952)
- Municipal tennis courts (1957, 1964, 1967, 1971)
- Bellevue Park play structures (1998, 2005, 2016)
- Rotary Santa Claus Parade (since 2005)
Stories can be submitted in writing, and the club is also looking for individuals interested in being recorded telling their story.
Rotary can be reached by calling 705-945-1279 or by emailing [email protected]. If you have a story that you aren’t sure is “what we’re looking for,” please do not hesitate to contact us and ask. If you know someone who might have a story to tell, please share this with them.
