Certain Queenstown business owners are taking over key parking spaces for their personal use, the Downtown Association was told at its March meeting on Wednesday night.
"I continue to get calls from disgruntled business owners, that there are people parked all day long in front of their businesses," said Marnie Stone, chair of the association's parking committee.
"A lot of them are owners of businesses that are using the parking in front of their businesses for their own personal use, and not leaving it open for customers," Stone said.
"And so I've directed them to call the parking authority number, and they dispatch someone very quickly to issue a ticket.
"But I just find it very disrespectful for a business owner to be taking a spot in front of their business – or a business – all day long, and not leaving that free for for customers to come downtown.
"I don't know how else to communicate that politely to a business owner – that the street should be for customers and patrons and not for your own vehicle.
"I've witnessed it myself a couple of times within this area, and so we're going to work on that."
