Dean Sayers re-elected as chief following Batchewana First Nation election

Votes cast for chief, eight councillors during last night's election

Last night, Batchewana First Nation members took to the polls to elect a chief and eight councillors.

Incumbent Dean Sayers was once again elected as chief, bringing in 387 votes.

Also running for chief were candidates Trevor Sayers Sr. with 291 votes and Michel Paquin with 20 votes.  

A total of 698 valid ballots were cast for chief, with 27 ballots for chief rejected.

The following candidates were voted in as members of council:

  • Harvey Bell - 234
  • Marlene Hewson - 255
  • Mark McCoy - 288
  • Gary Roach Jr. - 269
  • Dan Sayers Sr. - 315
  • Melissa Sayers - 234
  • Pete Sewell - 232
  • Lynn Tegosh - 268

In all, 28 candidates ran for councillor positions:

  • Fred Agawa - 141
  • Gregory J. Agawa - 177
  • Stephanie Ida Boyer - 105
  • Joseph M. Corbiere - 188
  • Kenneth James Daigle - 104
  • Ronald Dalton Jr. - 66
  • Dorothy Elie - 141
  • Rodney Elie - 87
  • Adele Madigan - 213
  • Mallory McCormick - 176
  • Brian McCoy - 164
  • Keith Nadjiwon - 51
  • Teala Nadjiwon - 214
  • Robin Neveau - 192
  • Michel Paquin - 53
  • Fred Robinson - 52
  • Laura Robinson - 224
  • Joe Tom Sayers - 150
  • Eugene Allan Syrette - 57
  • Vernon Syrette - 190

A total of 725 ballots were cast for councillor, with 10 of those ballots rejected.
