3:32 p.m. update:
Lisa Grbich, who lives at the home with her family, says "everybody is fine," following this morning's fire.
She said her son was in the home at the time, but was alerted by a neighbour and was able to get out safely.
Grbich said she has been told by fire officials that the fire originated with an electrical issue, not a propane tank, as she has seen some speculate.
11:53 a.m. original story:
Sault firefighters are at the scene of a residential fire on Lidstone Street in the city's west end.
The fire was reported shortly after 11 a.m.
Keith Mathewson, a former Toronto paramedic, was on Farwell Terrace when he saw "heavy black smoke" coming from the area.
“I knew where it was, because I delivered flyers here,” Mathewson told SooToday at the scene of the fire. “I pulled up...and saw the house up in smoke.”
A neighbour was "screaming and yelling" for people to get out of the house, Mathewson said.
He then went to the front door, where he met up with a male who was inside the house at the time of the blaze.
“I went to the front door, he just came out,” said Mathewson. “(I) opened up the door and said, ‘your house is on fire.’”
“He says, ‘what?’ He didn’t know it was on fire.”
The male then grabbed two dogs and evacuated the premises, Mathewson said.
The structure has suffered significant damage and it is unknown at this time if any injuries were reported.
SooToday will post additional information as it becomes available.
