Ward 2 Councillor Susan Myers is resting comfortably in Sault Area Hospital after a crash yesterday afternoon that destroyed her vehicle and one other, SooToday.com has learned.
She has received a number of sutures and was seen today by an orthopedic surgeon.
Police say the crash involved three vehicles and occurred at 1:12 p.m. yesterday at Pine Street and McNabb.
The Jaws of Life were used to get Myers out of her Ford vehicle, which was struck by a Pontiac van travelling east on McNabb Street.
Myers' vehicle then hit a Jeep that was going west on McNabb Street, and proceeded until it struck a utility pole at the northeast corner of the intersection.
The councillor suffered a pelvic fracture and is expected to need at least 10 days of bed rest, but there were no initial indications of internal injuries and surgery may not be necessary.
"I took her Blackberry away from her. She's on medication for the pain," said a close friend who is assisting Myers in hospital.
William Murphy, 54, of 77 Promenade Drive was charged with failing to stop for a red light.
