City points out places to keep your cool during heat wave

'During periods of hot weather, the safety of all residents is the priority,' city says

Don't have air-conditioning at home?

With Environment Canada issuing a heat warning for Sault Ste. Marie, city hall is highlighting locations where residents can go to beat the heat over the next few days.

"Hot and humid conditions are expected to last today through Friday with forecasted maximum temperatures of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius," the city said in a news release.

The city listed the following locations as "cooling spots":

  • James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (Open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
  • Northern Community Centre (Open 8 a.m. – 11 p.m.)
  • Bellevue and Manzo Park Splash Pad (Open 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.)
  • Outdoor Pools Manzo and Greco Pool (Open 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.)
  • John Rhodes Centre (Open to the public 7:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.)
  • John Rhodes Pool Visit www.johnrhodespool.ca for swim times before attending this facility.
  • Rotary Interactive Fountain, Downtown Plaza (Open 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.)

"During periods of hot weather, the safety of all residents is the priority," the city said. "Anyone without access to air conditioning or a cooling area can visit one of the city’s cooling spots listed above."

The City reminds residents to follow Algoma Public Health recommendations during a heat warning and to stay safe.
