Matthew and Jenna Shoemaker have this morning announced an addition to their household.
"At 5:49 p.m. on October 14, weighing eight pounds, nine ounces, Maxwell Arthur Shoemaker joined the family and, along with brother Hudson, gave Jenna Shoemaker and I a complete pair of Shoes," the Ward 3 councillor posted on social media.
Coun. Shoemaker responds to the nickname "Shoe" and at one point looked at registering the Internet domain ShoeToday.com for campaign purposes.
"Max is healthy and mom is recovering well," he says.
"He was 20 inches at birth and the staff and team at Sault Area Hospital were amazing in helping both baby and mom through the delivery," Shoemaker tells SooToday.
City Council babies aren't a common occurrence in Sault Ste. Marie, but Ward 2 Coun. Luke Dufour and Elise Nelson also made a contribution during the current term of office.
Their second child and first daughter, Ivy Mae, celebrated her first birthday late last month.
Also this term, Mayor Christian Provenzano and wife Kyleigh welcomed their third daughter, Alice, in May, 2019.
Ward 5 Coun. Matthew Scott is also doing his part achieving Sault Ste. Marie's goal of raising the Sault's population by 10,000 before 2027.
He and wife Marina Tombari welcomed their first child, Theodore, in May, 2020.
