The W.J. McMeeken Centre’s doors are scheduled to reopen at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, after an investigation into last week’s carbon monoxide incident at the Goulais Avenue facility.
City staff are at work finalizing actions recommended by third party investigators before the facility is reopened to the public.
Those actions will be completed and verified by the third party engineering firm before opening on Thursday.
“Administration is very confident (the actions taken will ensure the McMeeken Centre is safe for the public),” stated Al Horsman, city CAO, in an email to SooToday.
“The implementation of all recommendations are subject to third party sign-off. The recommendations and actions taken to address these will be provided in the final report,” Horsman stated.
A final report on the results of the investigation into last week’s incident, which resulted in several people reporting to Sault Area Hospital emergency with signs of carbon monoxide inhalation symptoms, includes findings from the city of Sault Ste. Marie’s Engineering department and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.
Those findings will be shared at a later date.
Regular updates will continue after the reopening of the McMeeken Centre, Horsman’s email stated.
