Chris Ford promoted to Algoma Steel vice president

LSSU grad will head the steelmaker’s sales efforts

Algoma Steel Group Inc. announced tonight that Chris Ford has been promoted to vice president – commercial.

A 1994 graduate of Lake Superior State University's criminal justice program, Ford has been the steelmaker's director – USA sales and customer service since August, 2022.

"Chris Ford brings an impressive track record and deep industry knowledge," says Michael Garcia, Algoma's chief executive officer.

"We are confident in Chris’ ability to continue the momentum and drive our sales division forward," Garcia said in a written statement.

Ford cut his teeth in the steel trade at Maksteel in Mississauga in 1995.

He joined Algoma Steel's sales team in 1997 and has been with the company continuously since then, except for a five-year stint as regional manager of Concord Steel Ltd. of Woodbridge, Ont., from 2004 to 2009.

Ford will succeed Rory Brandow, Algoma's vice president – sales, effective Dec. 1.

"Over an extensive career with Algoma, Rory has personified our core values of safety, teamwork, integrity and caring," CEO Garcia said.

"He has been a strong advocate for Algoma over the years and we extend our sincere gratitude to Rory for his leadership and service."
