The first clear sky in days has given time for people across the Sault to dig out from under more than a metre of snow that has fallen in the past few days.
The owner of a local snow removal company agreed to be interviewed on Sunday about the huge amounts of snow that have blanketed the Sault, but he asked that his name and the name of his company not be used — because his phone hasn't stopped buzzing and the last thing he needs is more advertising.
"I was covering about 25 kilometres west to east, but when I stopped more [snow] had fallen and I had to go from east to west all over again," he said.
Running on Tim Hortons ice caps and very little sleep, he is one of dozens of operators criss-crossing the Sault to remove snow from private driveways and parking lots, not to mention those driving graders and sanders to keep the streets clear.
But it's not just the big companies. Some enterprising youth have taken the opportunity to help out and make a couple of extra dollars on the side.
Local 13-year-old musician Molly Escherich took to Facebook in an effort to build up her client list for shovelling snow to save up for a new amp. Her mother Tiffany Escherich told SooToday her daughter shovelled two properties on Sunday.
"She has a potential two more jobs and she got two donations from people who were proud of her work ethic," said Escherich.
