HURON-SUPERIOR CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

A long serving trustee for the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) has announced her resignation.
Laurie Aceti, who has served twenty-four years as a Catholic school board trustee announced her decision at Wednesday’s monthly meeting of the Board of trustees.
“It has been an honour and privilege to have served the Catholic education system for over 24 years; however it is with great regret that I find I must resign my seat on the HSCDSB Board of Trustees,” said Aceti.
“Unfortunately, due to my husband’s illness and treatment, I am unable to return to Sault Ste Marie at this time, or for the next few months. My husband’s prognosis is very optimistic and we hope to return whenever it is possible. Again, thank you to everyone in the Sault and area, for their kind messages and support over these past few months and the many years I served as trustee,” added Aceti.
Aceti was first elected trustee for the Sault Ste. Marie District Roman Catholic School Board in 1989. At that time she served for five years as a trustee. In 2000, she was elected to the HSCDSB Board of Trustees. She served as Vice-Chair from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2008 to 2010. In 2011 and 2012
she served as Chairperson.
“I have had the privilege to work with Laurie for almost two decades. She was an extremely dedicated trustee and took her role in Catholic education very seriously. I thank her for all she has done to help our students achieve success and wish her all the best,” said HSCDSB Chairperson, John Caputo.
“Laurie was a passionate advocate for Catholic education. She wanted our students to have the best possible tools and school environments to ensure success. Her input will be missed,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, Rose Burton Spohn.
The process for filling the vacated seat on the board has yet to be determined.
