"She is just beautiful," croons happy new mom Rachel Syrette.
Kelsey-Ann Peplow-Syrette, born over the weekend to Syrette and spouse Corey Peplow, may be the biggest baby ever born at Sault Area Hospital.
Kelsey came into the world shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, weighing in at 14 pounds and 10 ounces.
"I'm going to have to bring back and exchange all her diapers," mom Rachel tells SooToday.com.
Kelsey-Ann is one of the biggest babies in recent memory for hospital staff, as well.
"It's certainly above the average weight," says Mario Paluzzi, SAH's director of communications and public affairs. "But we can't confirm it as the largest without a search of 30 or so years of paper records." Paluzzi sent out a quick e-mail to those who may be in the know at the hospital.
Some of them remember babies born in the 13 to 14 pound range, but none could say if baby Kelsey-Ann is the largest.
Syrette told SooToday.com that Kelsey-Ann is her fourth child and that the other three were also fairly hefty babies.
Her oldest, a boy now 10 years old, weighed 10 pounds when he was born.
The older daughter, now seven, weighed 12 pounds at birth.
Syrette's youngest son, now five, tipped the scales at nine pounds, nine ounces.
Kelsey-Ann is a vibrant, healthy newborn baby girl who's wearing clothes made for babies six to 12 months old, said Syrette.
The baby was delivered by Caesarean section at Sault Area Hospital by Dr. Charmaine Roye from Ottawa.
Kelsey-Ann's family is looking forward to welcoming her home sometime tomorrow as Rachel is recovering well from surgery.
