Dr. Kim Barker – new medical officer of health for Algoma August 1, 2013
 

The Board of Health for Algoma Public Health wishes to announce the appointment of Dr. Kim Barker as medical officer of health for the District of Algoma effective August 1, 2013.

This appointment is contingent on approval by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

Dr. Barker is an Ontario physician with an impressive CV.

Dr. Barker is currently working on her Public Health and Preventative Medicine Residency at the University of Toronto, to be completed in 2013.

She holds a Master of Public Health and an International Health Fellowship, also from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Barker has worked with the Assembly of First Nations as the public health advisor.

She also is a World Health Organization tuberculosis consultant.

Dr. Barker is a previous associate professor for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. 

Impressive is Dr. Barker’s work with the United Nations, UNICEF and the United States Peace Corp on health promotion and prevention issues in the country of Tanzania.

She is the daughter of political cartoonist Ben Wicks. 

The Board of Health welcomes Dr. Barker to Algoma and is looking forward to her leadership in continuing to improve health protection and promotion for Algoma citizens.
