It's likely that you've never heard of The Fast Romantics.

But you will.

The Calgary-based Britpop-like outfit made a stop at Loplops Gallery-Lounge this week.

On a night when the bar is not normally open, approximately 40 adventurous new music-seekers ventured out to take in the Blur-meets-Spoon-meets-Ben Folds-meets-Arcade Fire sound of The Fast Romantics.

With heavy hooks, boundless passion and a dollop of playfulness, the band easily drew the audience into its arms and didn't let go.

Along with their own offerings, including Spooning the Gorilla, Stop Me, Sleepy Jean and The Soup Song, the boys delivered brilliant covers of Elvis Costello's Pump It Up and Iggy Pop's The Passenger.

It was a pretty happy place to be, full of promise for a bright and inspired future in Canadian music.

We're willing to wager that once the boys hit Canadian Music Week in Toronto tomorrow with a freshly pressed debut disc in hand, demand for this four-piece will be incessant and widespread.

Bass player Jeffery Lewis told SooToday.com that for seven shots of Jagermeister, he'll bring The Fast Romantics back to the Sault for follow-up gig in July of this year.

"If this is legally binding, I'm screwed," Lewis joked.

Fingers crossed.

The Fast Romantics' self-titled release, mixed by Mike Fraser (Led Zeppelin, Elvis Costello, Franz Ferdinand, Sam Roberts and AC/DC), is currently available for purchase on iTunes.

Delicious morsels from the album can be sampled on the band's MySpace page.
