Baby Maxwell is Sault’s first birth of 2020 (2 photos)

‘He’s settled and happy,’ says mother Amy

Maxwell Lincoln James Shackleton is Sault Ste. Marie’s first baby of 2020.

Born at Sault Area Hospital at 1:31 a.m. Wednesday, Maxwell weighs 7 pounds, 11 ounces and is 53 centimetres in size, the healthy third child for mother Amy McKay and father Dennis Shackleton, and brother to two-and-a-half-year-old Isaac Shackleton and one-year-old Henry Shackleton.

Amy was admitted to SAH shortly after midnight Wednesday.

“He’s good. He hasn’t cried once. He seems very settled, very happy,” said Amy of Maxwell, sleeping peacefully at his mother’s bedside.

Amy and Dennis were both tired but clearly delighted with the birth of their third son.

“We’ll be trying to get the hang of things, having three children now. There’ll be new challenges and experiences, not as many hands,” Amy said, adding family members are there to help out.

“It’s chaotic (having three young children). Some days are better than others,” chuckled Amy, who is considering a return to Sault College for post-secondary studies in the fall.

Doctors were expecting Dec. 25, 2019, to be Maxwell’s date of birth.

“I’m a week late...I didn’t expect this (for Maxwell to be the Sault’s first baby of the year),” Amy said.

“She’s just happy, we’re all happy, the birth has come. There’ll be a lot of sleepless nights but we can split the duties,” father Dennis smiled.
