Full text of a news release issued by Algoma University follows:

The Algoma University Varsity Athletics Department is excited to host its first-ever “MOment” - an event dedicated to raising funds towards the Movember campaign founded in 2003 to support prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health and suicide prevention. The event will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6 with opening announcements beginning at 9:15 a.m. The main event will be a workout comprised of 15 stations, with each exercise being performed for one minute. Participants will go through the circuit for a total of four rounds, which consists of body weight and cardiovascular exercises.

“The workout may seem daunting,” says Maria Coccimiglio, athletics and recreation operational support at Algoma U. “But the workout was strategically created to reflect some of the stats regarding men’s health. For example, globally, one man dies by suicide every minute.”

The event is open to everyone in the Algoma and Sault community. To participate, individuals can visit the event page and donate $5.00. Leaving your name with your donation will indicate that you are planning to register. The community is also welcome to come and spectate by donation.

For students and staff and Algoma University who may want to raise money in a different way, you can create a profile and join the AU Thunderbirds Team. The Movember website provides various ideas so you can 'MO Your Own Way!'

Last year, Algoma was able to raise $1,365 for the cause. This year, the Thunderbirds have high hopes to surpass this amount!
