********************* SMC grad lands a 'Dream' job

St. Mary's College grad Adam Proulx admits to being 'Disney-obsessed.'

Thanks to his selection as an Epcot Cultural Representative, he will spend the next year being immersed in all things Disney!

"This is really a dream come true," he says. "I went to Walt Disney World for the first time this past January. I couldn't get enough. It really got me hoping that I could work there one day, so I am very, very lucky."

Proulx leaves for Florida on July 18 for one year.

He will be stationed in the Canadian Pavilion.

He had been interested in applying at Walt Disney World in an entertainment position, but found that he would need to be an American citizen or acquire a working visa.

Proulx was then informed of the International Program, which allows people from around the globe to work at the Epcot Center.

"It's all about the experience," he says. "Not only will I be working in Walt Disney World, but I will also be living with people from all around the world, learning different cultures. I consider it like a paid exchange – to an amusement park!"

After applying, Proulx had two interviews – one over the phone and another in Toronto.

"I was very excited when I found out that I had been accepted," he says. "I can't wait to go."

Proulx was in the cast of Beauty and the Beast last November, in the role of LeFou.

His favourite Disney characters include Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Steamboat Willy, a character so treasured that he has a miniature statuette in his room.

More recent favourite Disney films are collaborations with Pixar, such as Finding Nemo and the Toy Story series.

Proulx is a big fan of the Muppets, also now in the Disney fold, and particularly enjoys Muppet Treasure Island.

The position means an opportunity for greater travel, another passion.

As a Grade 10 student, Proulx went to Europe on a school trip.

Along with valuable experience, the Walt Disney World stint will help Proulx focus his career course.

"Like most high school students, it changes often," he laughs. "I would love to get involved in entertainment and probably will in some form. That could mean being a musical theatre performer or involvement in advertising."

Proulx has also considered careers as an agent or casting director.

Family and friends are excited for Proulx.

"One cousin screamed so loud I nearly dropped the phone. Everyone is quite happy for me."

St. Mary's College drama teacher Joe Lauzon was delighted with Proulx's news.

"Adam is a highly gifted and creative actor, director and film maker. He has demonstrated a lively imagination in all his creative projects," he says. "Adam's serious approach to his craft and his willingness to take risks are assets that will serve him well in the future."

Perhaps the next year will be just the first time Proulx finds himself employed by Walt Disney World.
