Station Mall is hosting the internationally renowned Canstruction challenge this fall.

Competitors create jaw-dropping sculptures built out of canned goods for friendly accolades and to raise money and food for the local community. From animals and buildings to video game and cartoon characters, the sky is the limit for the creative Canstruction teams.

The structures will be on display throughout the mall for one week, after which the canned and non-perishable food will be donated to the Salvation Army here in Sault Ste. Marie.

Lori Amendola, Marketing Manager for Station Mall, is excited for the teams to come together for such a good cause. “I’m looking forward to seeing the creativity that comes out of the designs. The sky is the limit on content, and we are providing a large 12'x20' space in the mall common space for the structures,” she says.

Registration is Open for Canstruction Teams

Lori encourages any community group to put together a team and participate in the Canstruction challenge.

“Any business or organization that would like to help our local food assistance are encouraged to form a Canstruction team. Participating businesses and organizations will also have the opportunity to gain community exposure through this unique event,” she explains.

“Teams are responsible for providing their own canned and non-perishable food items; however, we do encourage them to seek sponsorship and donations from the community to accomplish their building goals.”

In other words, the more donations a team collects for the people in need, the bigger and better their can sculptures will be.

Important Cause for the Community

For the team at Station Mall, events like Canstruction are more than just a fun event. They can help to create positive change in the community.

“The housing crisis in Sault Ste. Marie is getting much worse as the days go by without any real solutions.  These donations of canned and non-perishable food items will make a huge impact on organizations such as the Salvation Army that work tirelessly in helping feed our community in need,” says Lori.
