SooToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Leslie McPeake:

On Thursday, Jan. 18 a fire suddenly broke out in our neighbourhood. Thick black smoke was billowing out from all sides of the home.
One neighbour quickly called 911, one neighbbour kicked in the front door to make sure no people or animals were inside. This may not be a wealthy neighbourhood, but everybody tried to help.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to the firefighters who arrived within minutes and entered that smoke filled house immediately.
They were quick and efficient and had the scene under control so quickly. They left some firemen in place to make sure the fire was really out. Good for you guys, we're lucky to have you.
