SooToday received the following letter to the editor in response to Monday night's story: Graffiti upsurge: 40% of downtown properties tagged this year.
It is so disappointing to read about the graffiti in our city.
I am also very concerned about the shoplifting that takes place every day in our stores. As a taxpayer and shopper, I am very aware of the fact that we pay for these criminal offences. I feel that our court system has really failed us.
Even if these criminals are arrested there are no consequences and they are back out on the street committing the same crimes.
In this past year we travelled from the northern part of Italy to the southern part and I was very aware of the fact there was very little graffiti.
Also we recently went for a day trip to a few towns in Upper Michigan and I commented on the fact that I saw no graffiti. It begs the question: "What are we doing wrong?"
