LETTER: Kudos to a group of Highway 638 heroes

SooToday received the following letter from Ryan London who wrote in the hopes an important act of kindness would not go unnoticed:

I wanted to send a letter of thanks/good news story about something that happened today on Highway 638.

[Tuesday] around 1:30 p.m. I was travelling eastbound on 638 out to visit family. At the bottom of a large hill and a blind corner between Bass Lake Road and End Side Road a tree had blown down blocking the eastbound lane. This was the absolute worst place for a lane to be blocked. A gentleman was on the scene and helped direct traffic at the blind corner to prevent an accident. He saved me from a head-on collision.

I passed the scene, collected my father, his chainsaws and returned. By the time I arrived, the gentleman had a saw and was already sawing the limbs, a woman was there taking the limbs and clearing the road. There were two teenage girls slowing traffic down on the hill as well as watching the blind corner at the bottom. We all worked together to clear the scene, direct traffic and went on our way.

I never got their names, but I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the Good Samaritans who stopped and helped keep our roadway and community safe. People who go out of their way to help others and keep a potential tragedy from occurring should be recognized. It may have been considered a small act, but the community should know there are still many good people out there.
