Two more COVID cases confirmed in Algoma

The Algoma region now 16 active cases, 13 of which were confirmed in the past three days

Algoma Public Health has confirmed two more COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

The cases bring the total number of cases in the region to 78 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Case #77 was tested on Saturday and was exposed to the virus through close contact with another confirmed case.

Case #78 was tested on Dec. 30 and their exposure category is unknown, meaning the person did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a confirmed case.

Both people are currently self-isolating.

The two cases continue a rash of new cases in the region in recent days.

APH has confirmed 13 new cases in the past three days with 16 cases in total remaining active in Algoma.

APH announced five new cases on New Year's Eve and six more yesterday.

Yesterday also saw an outbreak declared at Extendicare Maple View after two staff members tested positive.
