The spread of COVID-19 has residents in the community practicing social distancing. Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services encourages members of the community to continue to practice social distancing, including during fire alarms and building evacuations.
Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services is asking the residents of multi-unit residential dwellings and other high-rise buildings to respect the social distancing advice of medical professionals, including during building evacuation.
“On behalf of Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services, I strongly encourage residents in multi-residential buildings to practice social distancing in the event of an alarm or building evacuation,” said Fire Chief Peter Johnson. “We encourage you to not congregate in hallways or stairwells during an alarm or an evacuation to permit our firefighters to perform their work.”
Social Distancing should be practiced throughout the evacuation process, including while residents are gathered outside of the building. Ensure at least two meters of space from each other, as well as not gathering near the fire apparatus.
“Please remember that social distancing applies to outdoor spaces as well," Fire Chief Johnson continued. "Let’s all do our part to flatten the curve and slow down the spread of COVID-19.”
