On September 4 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Sault Ste. Marie Police responded to a motor vehicle collision.

On September 4 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Sault Ste. Marie Police responded to a motor vehicle collision. It is reported that a motor vehicle that was southbound on Great Northern Road turned right into the Burger King parking lot and struck a bicycle that was also southbound. The bicyclist was transported to Sault Area Hospital with what are believed to be non life threatening injuries. Traffic Services are continuing their investigation.

A resident in the 500 block of North Street reported the theft of a gazing ball and outdoor lights. The ornaments were stolen sometime over this past weekend.

Crime Suppression Unit Arrests Male for Stolen Property and Drugs

On the 4th of September shortly before 11:30 am officers from the Crime Suppression Unit, assisted by Patrol Officers, executed a search warrant at a residence on Wellington Street East. Officers located a large quantity of antique and vintage items including a metal train set and a large child’s tractor.  In addition officers located a large quantity of antique china.  Officers were able to determine that the property had been taken from a break and enter to a residence on Euclid Road sometime earlier.

As part of this ongoing investigation officers from the Crime Suppression Unit were able to link the accused back to a residence in late August where one gram of cocaine and one gram of marihuana were located and identified as belonging to him. The estimated street value of the drugs is $80.  

28-year old Lance Wabigwan of 772 Wellington Street East #202 has been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance and two counts of breach of probation for failing to keep the peace and be of good behavior. The accused will appear in court on October 7th.

Arrests and theft from Overnight

On the 3rd of September shortly before 6 pm City Police attended at the Metro Store on Second Line West for a shoplifter.  It is alleged that a female accused and a male accused exited the store with a grocery cart of items that they failed to pay for. The value of the items was over $200. Store security followed the suspects and apprehended the female.  At the time of the offence the accused was also on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behavior and notify any address change.  40-year old Laura Williams of 18 Wellington Street West has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation.  She will appear in bail court on September 4th.  The investigation is still continuing in relation to the male suspect.

On the 3rd of September around 7:30 pm City Police attended at a centrally located residence after receiving a 911 hang up call. When officers arrived they spoke to a female who indicated that her ex-boyfriend had attended at her place.  They began to argue and it is alleged that the accused grabbed the victim by her hair.  A young child in the home intervened and the accused pushed the child away.  The accused then choked the victim and threatened to kill her.  He also punched and damaged a television.  At the time of the offence the accused was on conditions not to molest, harass or physically interfere with the victim as well as conditions to keep the peace and be of good behavior. The 27-year old male has been charged with two counts of breach of probation, one count of utter threat to cause death or bodily harm, one count of mischief, and two counts of assault.  He will appear in bail court this morning.

Last evening a Trek mountain 21 speed bike, green in colour, was reported stolen from a residence on Bush Street.
