Evening news: A window was reported broken at Family Video on Pim Street. Entry was not gained to the building. The front door at Sandro’s Restaurant on Trunk Road was smashed. Entry was not gained to the building.

Evening news:

A window was reported broken at Family Video on Pim Street. Entry was not gained to the building.

The front door at Sandro’s Restaurant on Trunk Road was smashed. Entry was not gained to the building.

The glass on the door of Maslack on Great Northern Road was broken. It is not believed entry was gained to the building.

A break in was reported to Stone’s Office Supply on Queen Street. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

A vehicle was entered in the 100 block of Princeton Drive. It is unknown if anything was stolen.

Mischief was done to an apartment building in the 200 block of Northern Avenue East. Flooring tiles were pulled up and thrown down the stairway.

Morning news:

On October 22, 2013 the accused Jeremy Meloche, age 40 was charged for theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000. It is alleged that the accused entered Canadian Tire on Great Northern Road and purchased a generator. The accused left the store and later returned and put a second generator in a shopping cart. The accused attempted to leave the store but was confronted by a store employee. A scan of the item proved it was not paid for. Police were called and the accused was arrested. The accused will appear in court on November 25, 2013 at 9:00am.

Update to previous release from October 22nd

A 28 year old man was arrested by OPP officers in Thessalon in relation to offences committed in Sault Ste Marie on October 21st. It is alleged that Mark Vasey of 44 Francis Street in Thessalon stole a 2003 pickup truck containing a shotgun from a residence in the 500 block of Douglas Street in Sault Ste Marie in the early morning hours of October 21st. Further investigation by City Police determined that the residence had also been broken into allowing Vasey to acquire the keys to the stolen truck. While still investigating this, the OPP contacted the City Police to advise they had located the stolen truck and shotgun in Thessalon as well as the accused. City Police officers then travelled to Thessalon to return Mr.Vasey back to Sault Ste Marie. He was charged with Break and Enter, theft over and under $5000, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possessing a weapon in a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and 5 counts of breaching various conditions of his recognizance. He will be appearing in Bail Court later today

Further investigation has lead to the arrest of a passenger in the above vehicle. 24 year old Michael Rhodes of 169 Goetz Street has been arrested for 2 counts of possession of stolen property under $5000, one count of possession of stolen property over $5000, two counts of theft under $5000, several firearms charges related to the stolen firearm, and breaches of probation. In addition it is alleged that both accused persons broke into a residence in the 700 block of Wellington Street East and stole a television, unicycle, alcohol and old coins. Both accused are charged with break and enter theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000. Both will be making appearances in bail court this morning.

30 year old Krista Merola of 127 Henrietta Street will be appearing in bail court this morning. Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Drug Enforcement Unit along with officers from Patrol Services conducting a drug investigation located a quantity of narcotics in a purse belonging to the accused. It is alleged that the accused was in possession of 85 grams of methamphetamine, 71 grams of cocaine and one codeine pill. The total value of the drugs is estimated at $8510.

The accused has been charged with one count of one count of possession for the purposes of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She will appear in bail court this morning.

A 24 year old male and a 21 year old female will be appearing in bail court as a result of a domestic situation. It is alleged that on the 21st of October a male called his ex girlfriend to attend at his residence. Once she arrived there the two became involved in an argument and the male grabbed the female by the hair. While he was holding her his new girlfriend assaulted his ex girlfriend by punching her several times in the face and head. The victim did not receive any injuries that required medical treatment.

The 24-year old male has been charged with one count of assault.  The 21-year old female has been charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation.  Both will appear in bail court this morning.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., police attended at an address on Manitou Drive. Upon arrival police discovered that Mark Mattinas, age 34 of no fixed address was there. It was learned that Mr. Mattinas was wanted in relation to a break and enter to a garage on Glenwood Avenue and breach of probation. He will be appearing in bail court this morning.

Theft:

A resident reported that while her vehicle was parked in the 200 block of Wellington Street West a window was smashed out of the car and her purse was stolen.

A resident in the 100 block of Gladstone Avenue reported that shortly after 11:00 p.m. an unknown male entered her residence wearing a black hoody with a scarf covering his face and stole a quantity of prescription medication. The matter is under investigation.
