Evening news: On December 18th at approximately 3:45 a.m. , Sault Ste. Marie Police received a call from an Employee of Northern Fencing.

On December 18th at approximately 3:45 a.m., Sault Ste. Marie Police received a call from an Employee of Northern Fencing. The caller stated that he had attended the business yard on Cedar Street and observed that the fence had been pushed over and a Bobcat Skid Steer was missing. He followed the tracks in the snow and observed the machine being driven on McNabb Street. Police attended and were able to stop the vehicle without incident. It was also observed at this time that a snow plow blade had been attached to the machine with ratchet straps. A demand was made for the driver to provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device and he refused to do so.

Wendell McKay, age 41, of the 400-blocl of Parliament Street is charged with two counts of theft over $5000 (one for the Bobcat and one for the snow plow), one count of possession of stolen property over $5000, one count of mischief over $5000 for damage to the fence and one count of fail to provide a breath sample. He will be appearing in bail court tomorrow.

A 34 year old male was arrested as a result of a domestic violence incident. It is alleged that on December 18th the accused assaulted the victim by knocking her to the ground and kicking her. While being interviewed regarding this matter the victim further disclosed that the accused had assaulted her on December 13th by punching her in the head, assaulted her in October by pushing her to the ground and choking her and assaulted her in September by pushing her to the ground. He will be appearing in bail court tomorrow.

A 14 year old male was charged with one count of sexual assault. It is alleged that in early December the accused sexually assaulted his brother by forcing anal intercourse on him. The accused will be appearing in court on January 21.

A resident in the 100 block of Chapple Ave reported that the driver’s side mirror of their truck was smashed overnight.

Child Pornography Arrest

Members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Technological Crime Unit monitor the internet for persons possessing, making available and accessing Child Pornography.

Between the 4th of October and the 9th of December 2013, police directly connected to a computer and partially downloaded numerous movies of Child Pornography that the suspect’s computer indicated it possessed. Videos were viewed and confirmed to meet the Criminal Code of Canada definition of Child Pornography.

On the 18th of December 2013, Police executed a Criminal Code Search warrant at the residence of Christopher Michael BAKER, 31, located at 419 First Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie,  Ontario.

As a result of this warrant, police identified several   files of Child Pornography on the computer of the accused.  Further, Police located two firearms, a Remington model 870, 410 shotgun, and a Savage model 99C, which were insecurely stored in contravention of regulations; one firearm was also stored with ammunition, in contravention of regulations.

The accused Christopher Michael BAKER was arrested and charged with:

1)       Possession of Child Pornography, Contrary to Section 163.1(4) Criminal Code of Canada

2)      Making Available Child Pornography, Contrary to Section 163.1(3) Criminal Code of Canada

3)      Accessing Child Pornography, Contrary to Section 163.1 (4.1) Criminal Code of Canada

4)      Three counts of Storage of a Firearm in Breach of Regulations, Contrary to Section 86(2) Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been held for bail court in Sault Ste Marie.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of the Internet. This investigation is possible because of a funding grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services

On December 17, 2013 police responded to a complaint of dated domestic related incidents.  It is alleged that on May 11, 2013 a verbal argument lead to the accused becoming very angry and verbally abusive.  When the victim attempted to leave the accused grabbed the victim by the shoulders and began shaking the victim. The victim finally got free and left the area. It appears that alcohol contributed to the incident. (further)

On October 5, 2013 it is alleged that the accused had called to get a ride home.  The victim attended with a friend to pick the accused up.  On arrival the victim found the accused in an intoxicated state.  After a short time the victim said it was time to leave but the accused did not want to and grabbed the accused forcibly by the arm. The victim’s friend interjected and freed the victim and they left. (further)

On October 31, 2013 the accused requested the victim attend his residence to have a conversation about their future child.  The victim attended and found the accused drinking in his bed room. It is alleged that after a short conversation the accused became angry and forcefully kneed the victim in the stomach area. During the three assaults the victim was pregnant.  On December 17, 2013 the accused age 21 was arrested for assault X 3 and will appear in bail court on December 18, 2013 at 10:00am.

On October 19, 2013 it is alleged that while employed at Home Depot the accused Amanda Wilson age 26, refunded a customer on two separate transactions but did not take any product back. (further)

On December 3, 2013 the accused scanned 3 items being purchased by the same customer from the October 19 incident. The accused then cancelled the last item and the customer left without paying.  The accused was later seen in the parking lot speaking with the same customer.  On December 17, 2013 the accused was arrested for theft under $5000 and fraud under $5000.  The accused will appear in court on January 20, 2014 at 9:00am.

On December 17, 2013 the accused age 14 was arrested on outstanding warrants. It is alleged that on September 4, 2013 the accused did breach a probation order by not obeying a court ordered curfew. Further on September 9, 2013 the accused entered Rick’s Outlet and stole a blue bong. The accused was also charged with breaching a condition of probation by not keeping the peace and being of good behaviour. The accused will appear in bail court on December 18, 2013 at 10:00am.
