Evening news: On October 29, 2013 the accused age 15 was arrested for breach of probation X 2. The accused had a condition with a curfew to be in residence between the hours of 10:00pm and 7:00am .

On October 29, 2013 the accused age 15 was arrested for breach of probation X 2. The accused had a condition with a curfew to be in residence between the hours of 10:00pm and 7:00am. The accused disobeyed the order on October 22, 23, 24 and 27, 2013.  The accused was also on conditions to attend school on a regular basis.  The accused missed school on October 23, 24, 25, 28 and 29, 2013. The accused will appear in court on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.

Police arrested a 16 year old young person for possession of stolen property and breach of probation. The accused was found to be in possession of a wallet that had been taken from a vehicle on October 24, 2013. The breach of probation is in relation to a probation order involving the Education Act under Provincial Offences legislation. The accused failed to report to school on the 29th of October 2013. The accused will appear in court on December 3, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.

 A vehicle had the driver’s side window smashed out in the area of Birch Street, between 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

 A garage was entered in the 2000 block of Queen Street East overnight. A camera was taken from a vehicle in the garage.

Morning news:

City Police officers were called to a disturbance in the Second Line west / Cooper street area early last evening. The incident involved an erratic driver, driving an unplated vehicle. The driver eventually stopped and became involved in an argument with another male who was yelling at him to stop driving. The argument escalated to the point where the accused punched the victim in the face and nose. Police attended and arrested 24 year old Joshua Vanatta of 141 Wilding Ave. with assault. It was noted by officers that Vanatta had been drinking. He failed a roadside alcohol test and later registered a reading of over 80 on the Intoxilyzer. He will be appearing in Provincial Court December 2nd. Joshua Vanatta was charged with one count of assault and one count of consume over the legal limit.

Patrol officers along with a member of the Crime Suppression Unit, the Emergency Services Unit and the Canine Unit attended to a residence on Edinburgh Street last night with regards to a male wanted on several outstanding charges. 22 year old Andrew Petts of no fixed address was taken into custody without incident and charged with failing to appear for Court on two separate occasions earlier this year. These court appearances were in relation to theft and possession charges, narcotics charges, and Breach of Probation charges. He was further charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and also breaching an order prohibiting him from possessing any weapons. He will be appearing in Bail Court later this morning.

Yesterday morning several break and enters into garages in the City’s east end were reported.  In the majority of them home owners failed to lock entry doors into the garages.  By practicing crime prevention tips such as securing all doors and windows to your property you can reduce your chances of being a victim of crime. Consider installing motion sensor activated lights around the outside of your garage as well.

-A garage on Louise Avenue was entered.  Change and some beer were taken.

-Three garages were entered on Glen Avenue. Items taken include change and a Tim Hortons card.  

-Thieves attempted to gain entry into a fourth garage on Glen Avenue but were unsuccessful.

In addition to the garage break and enters two reports of thefts from vehicle were also received yesterday morning in the City’s east end.

-A wallet and Nexus card were taken from a vehicle on Glen Avenue.

-A wallet, identification and cash were taken from a vehicle on Val Street.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would again like to remind citizens not to leave items of value such as wallets, cell phones and cameras in vehicles.
