The following persons are to appear in bail court this morning:

1) 37 year-old Gerald Burns of 687 Korah Road was arrested at 1:55 am this morning on Goulais Avenue and charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of fail to appear for prints, one count of fail to appear in court and one count of breach of a release document. City police checked a Ford Aerostar around 1:49 am on Goulais Avenue last night and when the driver was checked he was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court and prints from September. At the time of his arrest, the accused was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine.

2) A 14 year-old female was arrested on the 15th of October at 1:20 pm on Albert Street West and charged with one count of resist peace officer, one count of assault peace officer and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused was brought to court yesterday by a Sudbury Youth Worker for a scheduled court appearance in the Sault. When the appearance was completed around 10:30 am, the youth who was still in custody of the worker to return back to the Sudbury area Youth Facility, fled on foot. Police later located her at approximately 1:20 pm in the downtown area. When she was being arrested she continuously attempted to pull away and strike out at the officers and spat in the face of one of the officers.

Domestic Related Arrest:

A 39 year-old male was arrested on the 15th of October at 12:05 pm at his residence as a result of domestic related offences. He was charged with two counts of assault, one count of careless storage of a firearm and one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm. It is alleged that one the 13th of October around 11 pm the accused assaulted his wife by striking her in the face with his hand three to four times and then pushed her into a wall. Officers continuing the investigation and while conducting a Public Safety warrant on the 15th of October at the residence of the accused, located a rifle that was being carelessly stored and further discovered that the accused was not authorized to possess the firearm.

Investigation into Car Fire on the 10th of September Completed – Two Arrested:

Investigations Services completed the investigation into a stolen car that was set on fire at Avery’s Pit on the 10th of September. It is alleged that the two male youths, aged 15 and 17 years, stole the 1989 Pontiac Sunfire from a residence in the 700 block of Wellington Street West, attended at Avery’s Pit off of Second Line West near Airport Road and set fire to the car, The car was destroyed by the fire. At the time of the offence, both accused were on probation and release conditions not to communicate or associate with each other and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The 15 year-old male youth was arrested on the 15th of October at 6:53 pm at his residence and was charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of mischief, two counts of breach of probation and one count of breach of a release document.

The 17 year-old was charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of mischief and two counts of breach of probation.

They are both to appear in court on the 18th of November.

Property crimes:

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service investigated one break and enter and one attempted break and enter yesterday.

There was an attempted entry to Orazietti Furniture, located at 238 Queen St. E. over the long weekend.

There was a break in reported to one of the C.N. Rail dining cars- located at the rail yard at 429 Carmen’s Way. It is not known what was stolen.

A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Breton Rd. had the front window damaged.

City Police received two more reports of damaged mailboxes. Residents in the 400 block of Fourth Line W and the 100 block of Wardell Rd. reported the mischief.

Motor Vehicle Collisions:

1) On October 15th, 2008 at 2:01 pm officers from the Traffic Unit of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service attended at a motor vehicle collision on Bruce Street at the top of the hill. In this collision a 2002 silver Chrysler was eastbound on Bruce Street and 2000 black Pontiac was westbound on Bruce Street. The two vehicles sideswiped each other as they met. Police are seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Traffic Section at 949-6300 extension 295.

2) On October 15th, 2008 at 5:27 pm officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Patrol Services investigated a two vehicle collision on Chambers Ave. near South Market St. It is alleged that a 1995 Chevrolet Astro van that was travelling southbound on Chambers Ave. struck the rear of 1991 Chevrolet Astro van that was also southbound on Chambers Ave. The driver of the 1995 van, 22-year-old female Hope Fretz of 39 Glenwood Ave. was charged with following too close under the Highway Traffic Act. Both vehicles sustained light damage in the collision. The other driver involved in the incident, a 60-year-old female was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

3) On October 15, 2008 officers from the City Police Service attended at the scene of a two vehicle collision that occurred at 2:19 pm at the intersection of John Street and Bryne Street. It is alleged that a 1995 Ford Mustang that was westbound on Bryne St. failed to stop for a stop sign at John St. and struck a 2006 Honda Civic. The Civic was northbound on John St. at the time of the collision. The Honda Civic came to rest against a residence in the 500 block of John St. The 32-year-old female driver of the Honda Civic was transported to the Sault Area Hospital by Ambulance with minor injuries. Both vehicles were severely damaged in the collision. The driver of the Ford Mustang, 44 year-old Robert Dennie of 16 Bloor St. was charged with driving a motor vehicle with no licence and failing to stop at a stop sign- under the Highway Traffic Act. He was also charged with one count of failing to remain at the scene of an accident under the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 17th 2008.
