Motor vehicle collisions and road safety tips

Yesterday between 7 am and 7 pm City Police received 29 reports of motor vehicle collisions.  Road conditions played a role in the majority of them. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to adjust their driving to the road conditions as well.

Remember to slow down and allow yourself a little more stopping time.  Clean the snow off of your vehicles and ensure your windows are clear and you have good visibility. Don’t forget to clean the snow off of your headlights and taillights.  If your taillights are covered with snow the car behind can’t see your brake lights.

And if you plan on travelling any distances, always ensure you have an emergency kit in the vehicle with you including blankets and warm clothing.  Your kit should also include a first aid kit, jumper cables, and flares.  You may also want a cell phone charger in your car too. And always let someone know when you are leaving, expected to arrive and the route you will be taking.
