Suspicious late-night fire on Abbott Street (10 photos)

Firefighters managed to quickly douse the flames

Fire crews were called to Abbott Street at around 12:45 a.m. Sunday after reports came in of a burning shed in the backyard of a resident’s home.

This was the neighbourhood’s second shed fire in as many nights.

Police crews blocked off Abbott Street between Wellington Street East and Albert Street East as firefighters battled the blaze.

Firefighters managed to quickly douse the flames, preventing any spread to surrounding homes and backyards.

Fire crews turned the scene over to police at around 1:50 a.m. to investigate the scene.

The neighbourhood made local headlines yesterday after a car crashed into old Toni’s Cakery on Gore Street, sparking a police investigation along Wellington between Bruce Street and Dennis Street.

Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and one was placed into custody from Saturday’s Gore Street incident.

No suspects behind Sunday’s suspicious fires have been determined at this time.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
