Police say one person has been charged after a man choked his victim with his bare hands before stealing from them.
The accused and the victim know each other, police said, adding that the assault took place after an argument.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says at around 10:20 a.m. on March 4, a 911 caller reported an assault at a multi-unit residence building in the 100 block of John Street.
"An investigation revealed the accused had gotten into a verbal altercation with a victim, who is known to them, before strangling them with their hands and stealing their wallet and one of their belongings," police said in a news release.
No physical injuries were reported.
A warrant was obtained for an arrest. On Monday, officers located and arrested the suspect.
Jean Paul Leonard, 66, is charged with assault causing bodily harm - choke, suffocate, or strangle, and theft under $5,000.
Leonard was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on May 12.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Leonard is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
