On Tuesday morning, a man wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested and is now facing weapons charges.
Around 10:30 a.m., officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service saw the accused driving on Korah Road. Police recognized the individual as being wanted on an outstanding warrant and attempted to stop the vehicle.
Police say the accused pulled into a driveway on Rossmore Road and ran into the residence.
While waiting for a warrant to enter the property, police contained the home.
Officers eventually entered the home and arrested the individual.
Police say that a prohibited, spring-loaded knife was found in the vehicle and seized.
As a result, Derrick Derasp, 33, has been charged with:
- careless use of weapon
- failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (X3)
- knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon
- occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
- possession of weapon contrary to prohibition order (X2)
- possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- unauthorized possession of weapon
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court and Derasp is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
