A 29-year-old man has been arrested after an armed robbery occurred at a business in downtown Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday morning.

Just after 9 a.m., Sault Police received a report of a robbery taking place at a business in the 0-100 block of Queen Street West.

Before officers arrived at the scene, the perpetrator fled.

Police located and arrested a man around the Cathcart and Gloucester Streets area after matching a description of the perpetrator. A search revealed the man had stolen Canadian money and a screwdriver in his possession, police said.

An investigation discovered that a man allegedly used a screwdriver in front of employees to demand money, which he then took and ran.

No physical injuries were reported.

Police have charged 29-year-old Brandon Murphy with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Murphy is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
