On Dec. 13, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a local 16-year-old with robbery.
At around 4:40 p.m., a 911 caller reported a robbery at a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road.
“Officers were dispatched to the area, as it was reported the accused had run away from the scene,” police said in a release. They located the accused in a parking lot in the 0-100 block of Willoughby Street, and arrested the individual.
Police said an investigation revealed the accused had taken an item from the business and concealed it in their pocket.
“When a loss prevention officer advised them to return the item, the accused yelled at them and left the business with the item. When the loss prevention officer followed them out of the business, the accused took the item from their pocket and threw it at their head, striking them.”
No physical injuries were reported.
The accused youth is charged with robbery. They were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11, 2025.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
