On Tuesday, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 29-year-old man after he was spotted with what appeared to be a gun.
At around 10:40 a.m., a 911 caller reported someone with a weapon in a multi-unit residence building in the 0-100 block of East Street.
This resulted in a lockdown at the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library and the Art Gallery of Algoma.
“Officers were dispatched to the scene where they located, and arrested, the accused. A search of the accused located a pellet gun which looked like a black pistol,” police said in a news release.
Brandon Murphy is charged with:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition
- Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
