Police have charged two people from Goulais River after a reported kidnapping on North Street this week.
On Wednesday around 1:45 p.m., a 911 caller reported that a youth had been kidnapped in the 400 block of North Street.
An investigation by officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service found that two people had broken into the victim's residence, took the victim outside and struck them in the head before putting them into a vehicle and driving away.
Officers found a vehicle matching the description in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Great Northern Road and saw the victim walking away from the vehicle, police said.
The two accused individuals were found in the vehicle. Police say the victim and both accused individuals are known to each other,
The victim suffered minor injuries in the incident.
As a result, Johnathan Corbett, 25, has been charged with:
- Assault
- Break and Enter – Commit Indictable Offence
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order x3
- Kidnapping
- Mischief – Under $5,000
Bridgette Simons, 26, has been charged with:
- Assault
- Break and Enter – Commit Indictable Offence
- Kidnapping
- Mischief – Under $5,000
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and both accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
