One person was arrested after police responded to a report of a theft from an east-end business on Thursday evening.

Officers responded to the 100 block Churchill Boulevard at around 6 p.m. to find "the accused in custody of security officers," says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

"An investigation revealed the accused had attempted to leave the business without paying for some items and, when confronted by security, kicked and pulled away from them," the release says.

The stolen merchandise was recovered during the arrest.

As a result of this investigation, 30-year-old Megan Laird is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 27 and stands charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Failure to comply with probation order x2

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Laird is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
