Missing person David F. Jones was located in Schreiber Ontario on the 5th of October at 3:40 pm. Jones was found to be in good health when he attended at the Schreiber O.P.P. Detachment upon hearing that he may have been reported to be a missing person.

Male Arrested for Assaulting two co-workers with a Forklift:

49 yer-old Peter Mossa of 63 Country Club Place was arrested on the 3rd of October at 2:40 pm at the city police station and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that on the morning of the 2nd of October the accused, while working as a motorized forklift operator at a local beer store, got into a verbal argument with a co-worker that was unloading a transport and drove the edge of the forklift into the leg area of the driver. The victim’s foot was crushed between a skid of beer and the forklift. As a result of the accused actions, two other skids of beer slid into another co-worker that was working in the area, pinning him between two other skids. Both victims had to be treated for non-life threatening injuries at the Sault Area Hospital.
The accused is to appear in court on the 10th of November.

The following five persons are to appear in bail court this morning


1) 18 year-old Matthew Zappacosta of 76 St. Andrews Terrace was arrested on the 4th of October at 5:50 am at his residence and charged with one count of break, enter and commit and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 4th of October 2008, the accused broke into H.R. Lash Men’s Wear on John Street and stole some clothing. The O.P.P Canine Unit assisted city police in tracking the accused to his residence. At the time of the incident the accused was on probation.

2) 21 year-old Jeffrey Petingalo of 203 Town Line was arrested on the 4th of October at 2 am on Huron Street and charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. It is alleged that when city police attended in the area of Huron Street and Wellington Street West for a fight involving several males, the accused was observing dropping a switch blade knife to the ground.

3) A 28 year-old female was arrested on the 5th of October at 7 pm at a west end residence and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach of a release document as a result of a domestic related incident. It is alleged that on the 5th of October around 6:43 pm the accused got into a verbal argument with her girlfriend at a male friend’s residence and grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen. When the male resident attempted to intervene, the accused threatened to slit his throat. He left the residence and called police. Police attended and arrested the accused without incident. No injuries were reported.

4) A 56 year-old male was arrested on the 4th of October at 8 pm at his residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 4th of October around 6 am the accused assaulted his girlfriend at his residence by grabbing her around the throat, choking her and punching her in the face. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.

5) A 36 year-old male was arrested on the 5th of October at 2:49 am at his residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 5th of October at 2:35 am the accused assaulted his common law partner at their residence by punching her in the head causing non life threatening injuries.

Male Arrested for Theft from Vehicle:

22 year-old Donald Jordon of # 2 August Street was arrested on the 4th of October at 1:39 am on Cunningham Street and charged with one count of trespassing at night, two count of breach of probation and one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 4th of October around 1:28 am city police received a call about a suspicious male attempting to break into a vehicle on Cunningham Street. When officers arrived they observed the accused exiting the vehicle and at the time he was found in possession of two pairs of sunglasses from the vehicle. He is to appear in court on the 3rd of November.

Shoplifter Arrested:

18 year-old Benoit Cantin of 1312 Pineshores Road, Goulais River Ontario was arrested on the 3rd of October at 1:25 pm at Canadian Tire and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 3rd of October around 12:15 pm the accused attended at the store and stole two lighters. He was apprehended by store security and held for police. He is to appear in court on the 3rd of November.

Property Crimes Reported over Weekend:

Theft Reports:

• Vehicles were entered on Shannon Road, Albert Street East, Cumberland Avenue, Breton Road, Prentice Avenue and Assunta Drive. CD’S , wallets, identification, a cell phone, a fleece jacket, change, a gym bag containing some papers and a blue tooth wireless system for a cell phone were reported stolen.
• A front licence plate - AVEK 286 was stolen from a vehicle on Wellington Street East.
• Gas was reported siphoned from two vehicles that were on the roadway on Atwater Street.
• Bicycles were stolen on Douglas Street and Champagne Drive.

Mischief Reports:

• The bus shelter on McNabb Street was damaged
• A vehicle window was smashed out sometime overnight on the 5th of October.
• A window of a car port on St. Mary’s Avenue was smashed.
• A vehicle on Langdon Road was damaged.
• A vehicle on Dyment Street was damaged.
• A rear window of a vehicle parked on St. Michael’s Square was smashed.
• A back window of a vehicle parked on Sydenham Road was smashed.
• A vehicle parked on Boundary Road was damaged.
• A front window of a residence on Bloor Street West was damaged.
• A garage door on Maki Road was damaged.
• Three fence boards on the North side of a residence on Illinois Avenue were damaged.

Motor Vehicle Collisions with Injuries Investigated:

City police attended at a single motor vehicle collision on Saturday afternoon around 12:15 pm on Queen Street East that sent a 30 year-old male passenger that was in the vehicle to hospital by ambulance for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that the driver of a Honda that was travelling at a high rate of speed on Queen Street East, lost control and struck a utility pole on the side of the road. As a result the driver, 22 year-old Thomas Comegna of 7 Creery Avenue was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with one count of careless driving.


City police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Sunday morning around 10:08 am at the intersection of North Street and St. George’s Avenue that sent one of the drivers, a 40 year-old female to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that a GMC pick up that was travelling southbound on North Street was struck by a Ford Pick up that was westbound on St. George’s Avenue. The 40 year-old female of the GMC was the driver injured.
The driver of the Ford Pick, 37 year-old Cory Bloye of 139 Pardee Avenue was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with one count of fail to stop for red light.
