The following five persons are to appear in bail court this morning:

1) Male Arrested for Possession of Stolen Vehicle:


22 year-old Thomas Sabourin of #4-700 Pine Street was arrested on the 22nd of November at 10:10 pm at 700 Pine Street and charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of theft over $5,000.00 and one count of breach of a release document. It is alleged that on the 22nd of November around 9:40 pm city police received a call regarding a Chev Silverado being driven in an erratic manner in the area of 700 Pine Street. When officers arrived they learned that the driver had abandoned the truck in the rear parking lot and entered the building. Officers located the driver matching the description in the hallway on the second floor. A check of the vehicle revealed that it had been stolen earlier that evening around 7:45 pm from the driveway of a residence on Letcher Street.

2) Male Charged for Threatening Person Known to Him:

52 yer-old Peter Mattalo was arrested on the 21st of November at 1:40 pm at the Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre where he is in custody and charged with one count of threaten death or bodily harm. It is alleged that in the afternoon hours on the 20th of November the accused advised a staff member that he was going to kill a person that he has been having problems with.

3) Youth Arrested for Robbery at Local Youth Home:

A 13 year-old male youth was arrested on the 22nd of November at 1:35 pm on Albert Street and charged with one count of robbery, one count of mischief and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 22nd of November at approximately 1 pm at a local Youth Home the accused stole an X- Box and eleven games from another male resident while armed with a paring knife. It is further alleged that the accused damaged a door at the home after kicking it in. At the time of the incident he was on probation conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

4) Domestic Related Arrests:

- A 34 year-old male was arrested on the 21st of November at 9:14 pm at a centrally located residence and charged with one count of assault, two counts of breach of a release order and one count of resist peace officer. It is alleged that on the 21st of November the accused assaulted his spouse by grabbing her and pushing her head into a stroller. The victim received non-life threatening injuries. When police attended and attempted to arrest the accused, he continuously resisted them by swearing and fighting with them. At the time of the incident the accused breached a recognizance release order by being under the influence of alcohol and by failing to be at his place of residence between the hours of 6 pm and 6 am.

- A 39 year-old male was arrested on the 23rd of November at 9:15 pm at his residence and charged with one count of threaten death or bodily harm. It is alleged that on the 23rd of November the accused called his ex-wife on the phone and threatened to cause bodily harm to her.

Impaired Drivers Arrested:

1) 45 year-old Stephen Woods of #3-321 Wellington Street West was arrested on the 22nd of November at 3:05 pm on Wellington Street West and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that on the 22nd of November at approximately 3 pm city police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver that had just left the Beer Store on Second Line West. A description of the vehicle, a red Ford Ranger was provided and officers checking the area observed the truck travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed in poor road conditions as a result of the heavy snowfall. The driver, the accused, pulled into his driveway and was confronted by police and at the time, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He is to appear in court on the 12th of January, 2009.

2) 22 year-old Daniel Duclos of 38 Atwater Street was arrested on the 23rd of November at 2:22 am on Queen Street West and charged with one count of fail to provide breath sample. It is alleged that on the 23rd of November around 2:20 am city police stopped a vehicle on Queen Street West near John Street after observing it travelling the wrong way on Gore Street. When officers checked the driver, the accused, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The accused later refused to provide a breath sample. He is to appear in court on the 22nd of December.

Female Arrested on Outstanding Break and Enter Warrant:

32 year-old Heidi Debassige of #3-260 Wellington Street West was arrested on the 23rd of November at 9:27 am on Albert Street West on an outstanding warrant and charged with one count of break, enter and commit. She is to appear in court on the 22nd of December.

Property Crimes from Over Weekend:

Robbery Investigation:

On the 23rd of November at 6:47 am city police received a report of a robbery involving a Union Cab Driver. The driver reported that on the 23rd of November at approximately 5:58 am he picked up a fare at the intersection of Queen Street and Dennis Street. The male requested to be taken to the Rankin Reserve. The male, who sat in the front seat of the cab, was driven to Frontenac Street just east of the Rankin Reserve when he instructed the driver to stop. The driver was then struck in the face and blacked out. The driver woke up about thirty minutes later and discovered that his wallet was left on the passenger seat and had an undisclosed amount of cash taken from it.
The suspect was described as a male, between 25 and 30 years of age, 5’10”, 200 lbs, with a dark complexion, long black hair, goatee, brown eyes and was wearing a red Chicago baseball cap and a blue waist length winter jacket. The investigation is continuing at this time.

Break and Enter and Theft Reports:

• A residence on London Street was entered. It is not known at this time what was stolen.
• An attempt break and enter was reported at a residence on Roosevelt Avenue.
• A garage on Glasgow Avenue was entered sometime overnight on the 22nd of November. A silver and black Craftsman snow blower was reported stolen.
• There was an attempt break and enter reported to a garage on Rowell Avenue overnight on the 22nd of November.
• A Sachs Dolmar chain saw was stolen from the property of a residence on Roosevelt Avenue.

A Sirius satellite radio, mounting and charging unit was stolen out of a vehicle on Henrietta Avenue sometime overnight on the 23rd of November.
