Evening new release A 41 year old male was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Breach of a Undertaking and Breach of Probation. T he charges stem from a domestic incident where the accused was on undertaking not to communicate with the victim.

56 year old Paul Faubert  of Goulais River was arrested at the OPP station on outstanding warrants for a fail to appear charge. The accused missed his court date in July on a Mischief charge. He is to appear in bail court tomorrow.

31 year old Christopher Allen of 624 Queen St East was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to re-attend court on a breach of probation charge. He is to appear in bail court

From a previous press release on August 6 2013 where three accused were charged with several drug and weapon offences as a result of a traffic stop on Schafer Ave. Investigation has now identified a fourth occupant of the vehicle. 21 Thomas Agawa of 160 Frontenac St. stands charged with the following offences:

(1) possession of a controlled substance

(2) possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

(3) possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace ( a hand gun)

(4) possession of a firearm without a licence

(5) possession of a firearm knowing he did not have a licence to possess

(6) possession of a firearm and being an occupant of a motor vehicle

(7) possess a loaded prohibited firearm

(8) possession of a firearm with altered serial number

(9) Obtruct police by hiding evidence

(10) Breach of Probation

The co accused already charged on August 6 were Derek Derasp, Devin Mullins and Taylor Dow. Thomas Agawa is scheduled to appear in Bail Court tomorrow.

June 14th MVC Update

On June 14th 2013 City Police requested assistance from the public regarding a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Marks Work Warehouse. The incident occurred at approximately 6 pm that evening. A white vehicle was reversing out of a handicapped parking spot when it struck a male resulting in non life threatening injuries to the male which required him to be taken to the Hospital. The driver and the vehicle then left the area. The original call for public assistance did not produce any leads in this case.

To assist with this ongoing investigation The Sault Ste Marie Police are asking for the public to aid in identifying the female in the attached photo as it is believed she may be of assistance in the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or can help to identify the female in the attached photo is encouraged to contact Sgt. Ray Magnan of Traffic Services at 705-949-6300 extension 348.

Name of Deceased Released-Next of Kin Notified

Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to work on the homicide.

Forensic Unit Officers are continuing to process the crime scene and it is expected that they will be at the residence for several more days.

Investigators have confirmed that the victim was stabbed and an edged weapon has been seized.

Officers have just confirmed that they have been able to notify next of kin.  The deceased in the homicide is 42-year old Corellie Bonhomme of no fixed address.

The accused and victim were known to each other and are not related.

The accused, 18-year old Johnathon Townsend of 379 Lake Street Apartment G-9 was arrested and charged with one count of Second Degree Murder on August 10th.

Mr. Townsend appeared in bail court on August 12th and has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on August 14th.

Update to Homicide Investigation

Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to work on the homicide.

Forensic Unit Officers are continuing to process the crime scene and it is expected that they will be at the residence for several more days.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time as Investigators are still attempting to notify next of kin.

Weekend Property Offences:

Several property related offences were reported to the Sault Ste Marie Police Service over the weekend.

Sometime between the 7th of August 2013 and the 9th of August 2013 unknown persons removed an air conditioning unit from a residence window in the 600 block of Albert Street West. Once inside a variety of video game equipment, games, and a carton of cigarettes were taken.

On the 9th of August at 2100 hours a residence in the 100 block of Eastern Avenue was found to have the front door forced open. Nothing was reported stolen in this incident.

Upon returning home in the early morning hours on the 10th of August a resident in the 300 block of Korah Road discovered that their residence was entered overnight thru a front door. A flat screen television was reported stolen.

On the 11th of August at 0345 a resident in the 700 block of Pine Street reported that their front door had been damaged in a believed attempt to enter the residence. No entry was gained, however the door was damaged in this incident.

On the 9th of August a vehicle was entered while parked in the Marks Bay area. The rear window to the vehicle was damaged and several items removed from the vehicle. Items taken include a diaper bag, wallet and contents, and an I Phone.

On the 10th of August overnight two vehicles were reported entered in the 200 block of Upton Road. Items taken include an I Pod dock, change, and a gear shift knob that was removed from one of the vehicles.

Arrests/Charged Persons:

On the 11th day of August 2013 the accused Patricia Pheasant age 23, of 366 McIntyre Street East, North Bay Ontario was on Heath Road and observed by police to be in an intoxicated state.  A check of the accused found that there were outstanding warrants in place.  There was a bench warrant for theft under $5000 X 2 and failing to attend court.  Further warrants included charges of failing to attend for finger prints and failing to re-attend court when directed.  The accused will appear in bail court on August 12, 2013 at 10:00am

On August 11, 2013 officers made a traffic stop on North Street. A check of the driver of the vehicle revealed an outstanding warrant for failing to attend for finger prints when directed. The accused Shannon Edwards age 41 of 819 Trunk Road, will appear in court on September 16, 2013 at 9:00 am.

On August 11, 2013 city police received a complaint at a local restaurant in the downtown core.  It is alleged that two males got into a consent fight at which time one male fled the area and later returned with a knife. After being confronted with the knife the other male fled the area and telephoned police.  The accused male age 19, was later located near Drive In Road and Great Northern Road.  The accused was in an intoxicated state and in the company of a female that he was not to be around by order of the courts.  The accused was also not to be away from his residence if he had consumed alcohol. The accused was charged by officers for weapons dangerous, breach of recognizance X 2 and breach of probation X 3.  The accused will appear in bail court on August 12, 2013 at 10:00am.

On August 12, 2013 police were called to the area of Palomino Drive regarding a family dispute. It was found that the accused was intoxicated and had already driven to the Sault from the Goulais Bay area.  Before police arrived the accused attempted to leave the area in his vehicle.  Police arrested the accused for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  On attending the station for a breath test a further charge of consuming over the legal limit was added.  The accused Gerald Derasp age 64 of 18 Eagle Mine Road, Goulais River, ON will appear in court on September 16, 2013 at 9:00 am.
