Person charged with trying to take baton and pepper spray

Sault Ste. Marie Police have charged a 35-year-old with disarming a peace officer after they tried to take a Special Constable's baton and pepper spray.

The incident occurred while they were in custody at the Sault Ste. Marie Courthouse for a different matter, a news release issued today stated.

Full text of the release follows:

On July 8, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 35-year-old Jaime McMillan with disarming a peace officer.

Around 3:20 p.m. the accused was in custody at the Sault Ste. Marie Courthouse on an unrelated matter. While in custody, the accused attempted to take the baton, and later pepper spray from a Special Constable.

The accused was detained and charged with disarming a peace officer. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
