An employee at a local health care facility is accused of stealing large amounts of pain medications — some for the purpose of trafficking — including Percocet, OxyContin and hundreds of Dilaudid injections.

Sault Police allege the worker fraudulently accessed the personal information of 57 patients in order to dispense controlled substances over a five-month period last year.

The case dates back to Oct. 26, 2023, when the employer notified police of an internal investigation at the unnamed facility.

“Detectives investigated further and discovered the accused had fraudulently dispensed and took possession of one Percocet tablet, two diazepam injections, three lorazepam injections, two oxycodone tablets, six Supeudol tablets, four Statex tablets, and 696 Dilaudid injections between June and October of 2023,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Marissa Takacs, 38, turned herself in at police headquarters yesterday afternoon and was arrested. She is charged with:

  • Fraud Under $5,000
  • Theft Under $5,000
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance x6
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking

Takacs was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Oct. 21, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
